Difference between a light moped and a light scooter
A electric moped drives a maximum of 25 km/h, gets a blue license plate, and you may drive it from the age of 16 with an AM driving license. electric moped (also known as an electric moped) reaches up to 45 km/h, receives a yellow license plate, and is ideal if you regularly ride longer distances or on provincial roads. Since January 1, 2023, a new regulation applies to light mopeds throughout the Netherlands. helmet requirement, just like for mopeds — a suitable NTA-8776 or ECE-22.06 helmet is mandatory for both categories. You can find the official rules for scooters and mopeds at Rijksoverheid.nl.
Choose a light moped if you mainly ride within the city and want to take advantage of the more flexible rules regarding bike paths in 30/50 zones. Choose a 45 km/h light moped if you often ride outside built-up areas or want faster roadside assistance. We supply most IVA models in both variants — you choose the license plate when ordering.
Which electric scooter suits you?
In addition to speed, pay attention to four things: range, motor power, battery and alarm. Most IVA scooters come with a 2 × battery configuration of 60V 24Ah or 72V 25Ah, good for a range of 100 to 120 km. Do you want to get going quickly in the evening? Then choose a model with a 2,000W or heavier maintenance-free motor — think of the IVA NCE Pro (3,000W) or the IVA E-GO S8. All IVA mopeds come equipped with an alarm as standard.

How much does an electric scooter cost?

That is slightly higher for an entry-level model than a comparable petrol scooter, but you will recoup the difference in running costs and maintenance. An electric scooter drives for approximately € 0,50 per 100 km of electricity, while gasoline soon € 5,00 to € 7,00 costs per 100 km. On top of that, an e-scooter has fewer moving parts: no oil changes, no spark plugs, no exhaust. As a result, maintenance is cheaper and less frequent.
For entrepreneurs, an electric scooter is particularly attractive for business purposes. Via the MIA and Vamil schemes you may deduct an additional portion of the purchase value from the profit — you can find the current percentages at RVO.nl. The insurance is comparable to a petrol scooter and starts at approximately € 8,00 per month for third-party liability coverage. IVA dealers work with multiple leasing companies that include electric scooters in their range. The monthly payment for an IVA E-GO S4 2.0 starts at approximately € 79,00 per month for a 48-month contract with 10,000 km. For self-employed professionals and SME entrepreneurs, business leasing is often more tax-efficient than buying, because the entire lease payment is tax-deductible.
